The Kent Historical Association Great Debate 2024
BackYear 12 students Martha and Thomas represented the school at the Kent Historical Association Great Debate on Tuesday, hosted by The King's School. The question set nationally was 'Which historical place or person from your local area deserves greater recognition?
Despite exceptionally high competition both speeches were highly commended with Martha achieving second place overall. Thomas spoke about the legacy and influence of Archbishop Lanfranc, sometimes a forgotten figure of the clergy. Martha focussed on a local history site, Canterbury Castle, soon to receive a levelling up grant to update its facilities.
It was a pleasure to listen to such articulate historians who spoke with confidence against a series of questions.
